| .jpg) History - Wheelpower Fulham In July 1979 Kevin and Christine Reilly lived out their dream by opening up their first motorcycle dealership in Fulham road, SW6 selling new and used motorcycles, Parts, Clothing, accessories and servicing. With no staff and just themselves it was a busy first few years for the business. Kevin a national level motorcycle racer and Christine an ex sidecar racer and rally driver had motorcycling in the blood, Christines passion for bikes was born after going to school with the late Barry Sheene! Starting as a solus Kawasaki dealership, Kevin a keen cyclist also sold bicycles as well as the Puch mopeds! The pink Puch Maxi moped was the highlight of the range! During the 80s the business was steadily growing and in 1988 Kevin and Christine opened up their second store in Grand Drive, SW20. The new outlet was also a solus Kawasaki franchise along with a few bicycles. With 2 stores there was a need for more staff and a re-organisation, naturally Kevin managed the Fulham store and Christine managed the Raynes park store curetting a little competition between the Reillys! By the end of the 80s Wheelpower was established as the no.1 outlet for Kawasaki within London and a major player in the country. The early 90s saw a steady growth in the motorcycle market and to promote the business Kevin and Christine started Wheelpower Racing running Kawasaki KR1s and later ZXR750s with riders including Ian Cobby, Rhys Boyd, John Neate, Steve Spray, IOM TT winner Jim Moodie, ex MotoGP and WSB racer Sean Emmett and of course their son the young up and coming Kelvin Reilly who is now a top British Championship racer finishing 2nd for the past 2 seasons in his class. Unfortunately in the late 90s the country was in recession and the motorcycle market was hit hard resulting in Kevin and Christine closing their Fulham store. With the closure of the Fulham store, wheelpower also saw some changes to the business and it was decided that bicycles were to go in favour of scooters and so in 1998 the Aprilia and Peugeot franchises were added to the Kawasaki franchise after a growth in the scooter/moped market was noted.

Neither did the motorcycle trade, after the doom of the late 90s motorcycle sales were up and Wheelpower had a bulging portfolio of the Kawasaki, Aprilia, Peugeot, Gilera and Malaguti brands. The start of the new century also saw the addition of Kevin and Christines son Kelvin to the business initially starting as the workshop `boy then parts/service manager to sales manager and lately to managing the current store.

Wheelpower had really established itself as a respected family run business. The Aprilia brand was growing tremendously and in 2004 a new solus exclusive Aprilia store was opened with Kelvin, after all the previous years guidance from his parents, managing the new store with its purpose built state of the art workshops, Wheelpower was now retailing more than 400 new motorcycles every year across its Kawasaki, Suzuki and Aprilia brands. At the end of 2007 Kevin and Christine decided that 28 years on the shop floor was enough and retired resulting in them closing the Kawasaki and Suzuki store, something they didnt want to do but felt the time was right and left the day to day running of the dealership to Kelvin. Today sees Wheelpower as the only exclusive Aprilia dealership in London and boasts a great reputation after 30 years of business, a well established workshop that delivers quality work on all makes of motorcycles and scooters, a parts, clothing and accessories department that can cater for all your needs and finally but most importantly a friendly family run atmosphere with great helpful experienced staff. With the launch of the amazing RSV4 the future has never looked so bright!
This shop was opened dedicated to our all new Aprilia customers making our company expand. It was opened in 2004 to create a new side to wheelpower. The shop became a success by the 2005 and keeps making a lot o success now. In 2008 the aprilia centre suffered a bit with the Kawasaki and Suzuki shutting down people must have thought we had shut down.
We're now one of London's leading aprilia dealers currently giving our customers the guarantee of a great service. |
